If you're considering Nashville club soccer tryouts, you probably have a few questions. What do tryouts actually look like? What are coaches watching for? And how can your player make the most of the experience?

We’ve put together a clear, step-by-step guide so both parents and players feel confident and ready for the field.

A Nashville Futbol Club coach gives instructions to a group of young players during club soccer tryouts, as athletes wearing numbered jerseys listen attentively on a green field surrounded by trees.
Coach Liz gives final instructions during Nashville Fútbol Club soccer tryouts as players prepare to showcase their skills and teamwork.

Step 1: Pre-Registration

Before your player arrives, we ask families to register online. This helps us plan for group sizes and ensures a smooth check-in process on the day of tryouts.

Tip: Register early to receive reminders and tips leading up to the event.

Step 2: Check-In, Number Assignment, and Headshots

At the field, your player will check in and receive a number to wear during the session—this is how coaches identify and evaluate each participant. We’ll also take a quick headshot, which is required to register your player with the state.

Parents will also have the option to complete any necessary registration paperwork on-site.

Step 3: The Tryout Session

Our club soccer tryouts are designed to be structured, competitive, and positive. Coaches evaluate players across four key areas:

  • Technical ability – Comfort and control with the ball

  • Tactical understanding – Decision-making and positioning in game scenarios

  • Physicality – Agility, speed, and overall fitness

  • Coachability – How well players listen, respond to feedback, and work with others

For our Academy-level players (12 and under), we do not make cuts. Instead, tryouts are used to create a skill baseline, allowing us to match players with the right level of competition to support their growth.

Step 4: Team Formation and Follow-Up

After tryouts, our staff meets to evaluate players and form teams thoughtfully. Within a few days, families will receive communication about placements and next steps for the season ahead.

We’re committed to being timely and transparent throughout the process.

How Parents Can Help

Tryouts bring excitement and nerves for many players. The best thing parents can do is offer steady encouragement and a sense of perspective. Remind your player that improvement is a journey, and every season is a new opportunity to grow.
